I read Jillian Michaels’ book last night called “Master Your Metabolism.” I LOVE it. The book was very informative and I recommend it to anybody. It was especially perfect for me in my mindset right now because she talks about how she always thought she was going to die young. Then she turned 30 and realized that she wanted to live a long life. She knew she needed to live a lifestyle that would help her achieve that. I never thought about when I was going to die, but when I turned 30 I did have my “rock bottom” moment where I knew I needed to change how I live and eat. It was that moment that woke me up to the fact that I needed to lose weight.
The gist of the book talks about hormones, and how after years of diets, poor eating habits, and the toxins in our foods and environment, our hormones can be completely out of whack. Then she goes into the foods we can eat that would be a natural remedy to get our hormones back in check. I especially recommend this book to anyone with diabetes or PCOS, or maybe anyone with a family history of them. She talks about it in the book quite a bit.
Jillian also talks of her struggle with her own weight. Jillian Michaels, struggling with her weight? WHAT! Now she is a normal person to me and this fact makes her even more perfect because she really understands my struggle being that she has been there herself. She mentions how no matter what she ate or how long she worked out, she could not lose those last 15 pounds. As soon she would eat a normal diet of 1800 calories, she would gain the weight right back. After visiting an endocrinologist she realized that her struggle was due to hormones and thyroid problems.
One of the natural remedies Jillian suggests is to go organic. I was definitely the person in the store saying, screw that. Organic is too expensive. However, after reading this book I can’t wait to make it to an organic grocery store to check it out. Luckily for me I have one right by my house that I’ve never stepped a foot in.
I am a true believer of God’s timing. Right before I read this book I called my aunt to find out where she goes to the Dr. because I want to get a wellness check up. She is my go to person for stuff like that and she would know what tests I should get done. I even googled, “turning 30, what tests do I need.” And here is Jillian immediately after in a book I found for free through my iPod (which if anybody wasn’t aware you can put your library card on and get books electronically for free). How AWESOME is that? So that is on my immediate agenda. I read online that Kelly Pickler shaved her head for her friend who is only 35 years old and just found out she has breast cancer. It made me realize how important awareness is for our bodies, and it has been too long since I have been to a doctor. I’m 30, lost about 65 pounds now and I haven’t been to a doctor in years. I probably took better care of my car than my own body, but never again. Time to get checked out.
Jillian also talks a lot about processed foods in this book. Again, perfect timing because staying away from processed food was my goal this week. That has been a work in progress, but after reading Jillian’s book, NO MORE! It was the fresh motivation I needed to stay with my protein, fruits, and veggies.
